Modelado para simulación de redes de sensores inalámbricas predespliegue basado en visualsense

    Get PDF

Ultra Low Power FPGA-Based Architecture for Wake-up Radio in Wireless Sensor Networks

    Get PDF
In this paper the capabilities of ultra low power FPGAs to implement Wake-up Radios (WuR) for ultra low energy Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are analyzed. The main goal is to evaluate the utilization of very low power configurable devices to take advantage of their speed, flexibility and low power consumption instead of the more common approaches based on ASICs or microcontrollers. In this context, energy efficiency is a key aspect, considering that usually the instant power consumption is considered a figure of merit, more than the total energy consumed by the application

Wake-up architecture for Wireless sensor nodes based on ultra low power FPGA

    Get PDF
In this work a novel wake-up architecture for wireless sensor nodes based on ultra low power FPGA is presented. A simple wake up messaging mechanism for data gathering applications is proposed. The main goal of this work is to evaluate the utilization of low power configurable devices to take advantage of their speed, flexibility and low power consumption compared with traditional approaches, based on ASICs or microcontrollers, for frame decoding and data control. A test bed based on infrared communications has been built to validate the messaging mechanism and the processing architecture

Wireless Sensor Network Modular Node Modeling and Simulation with VisualSense

    Get PDF
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been studied deeply during the last years, but real deployments with thousands of motes are really critical in cost, time and reliability due to several problems: commissioning, debugging, etc. In this context, simulation is becoming mandatory to reduce the potential failures of the WSN before deployment, which is very costly. In this paper, a simulation approach for WSNs nodes is presented, based in the Ptolemy simulation environment, specifically in VisualSense. The simulation is carried out over specific hardware, a modular platform for WSNs, whose main feature is the modularity. Therefore, the simulation is also modular, making the process very flexible to modifications of the HW to be simulated and to the operation conditions

On-the-fly dynamic reprogramming mechanism for increasing the energy efficiency and supporting multi-experimental capabilities in WSNs

    Get PDF
Remote reprogramming capabilities are one of the major concerns in WSN platforms due to the limitations and constraints that low power wireless nodes poses, especially when energy efficiency during the reprogramming process is a critical factor for extending the battery life of the devices. Moreover, WSNs are based on low-rate protocols in which as greater the amount of data is sent, the more the possibility to lose packets during the transmitting process is. In order to overcome these limitations, in this work a novel on-the-fly reprogramming technique for modifying and updating the application running on the wireless sensor nodes is designed and implemented, based on a partial reprogramming mechanism that significantly reduces the size of the files to be downloaded to the nodes, therefore diminishing their power/time consumption. This powerful mechanism also addresses multi-experimental capabilities because it provides the possibility to download, manage, test and debug multiple applications into the wireless nodes, based on a memory map segmentation of the core. Being an on-the-fly reprogramming process, no additional resources to store and download the configuration file are needed

Route-back delivery protocol for collection tree protocol-based applications

    Get PDF
We propose the Route-back Delivery (RBD) protocol; a routing mechanism to create reverse routes exploiting the Collection Tree Protocol to allow unicast data dissemination from the sink. The main goal of this work is to provide a mechanism to enable bi-directional communications among the root(s) and specific sensor nodes in data gathering applications that does not use broadcast only mechanisms. The main objective of the root-to-remote-nodes route creation is to disseminate short messages to change application parameters in a unicast fashion. This facilitates remote configurability in heterogeneous WSN deployments

CookieLibs: An Intuitive Software Platform For Controlling Cookies Wireless Sensor Nodes

In this work a complete set of libraries for developing wireless sensor applications in a simple and intuitive way is presented, in contraposition to the most spread application abstraction-level mechanisms based on operating systems. The main target of this software platform, named CookieLibs, is to provide the highest abstraction level on the management of WSNs but in the simplest way for those users who are not familiar with software design, in order to achieve a fast profiling mechanism for reliable prototyping based on the Cookies platform

In this work a complete hardware-software support platform for a WSN testbed focused on developing wireless sensor applications in a simple and intuitive way is presented, as an alternative of commercial-motes-based testbeds that can be found in the state of the art. The main target of this hardware-software platform is to provide the highest abstraction level on the management of WSNs but in the simplest way in order to achieve a fast profiling mechanism for reliable prototyping based on the Cookies platform as well as helping users to develop, test and validate Cookie-Based WSN applications
